A method and an apparatus for generating a gamma curve are provided to reduce the quantity of calculations required for generating the gamma curve and simplify a circuit configuration for generating the gamma curve. A method for generating a curve passing through a plurality of continuous control points as a gamma curve used to perform gamma correction on a video signal includes a step of selecting three continuous control points from the plurality of continuous control points(S102), a step of respectively generating 3-order curves which pass through the three control points(S110), and a step of combining the generated 3-order curves to generate the gamma curve(S114).
