PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk drive having electric power saving function and also capable of preventing occurrence of error caused by the delay of recording/reproducing operation with respect to streaming data to which real time performance is requested. SOLUTION: A timer 14 measures a non-receiving period in which a recording or reproducing command issued by a host device 20 is not received. When the non-receiving period continues to the threshold Ts or longer, a mode is changed over by a control section 13 to a standby mode for suspending a partial operation of this device. At this time, when data transferred immediately before are the streaming data to which the real time process is requested, the control section 13 does not changeover the mode to the standby mode even though the non-recording period continues to the threshold Ts or longer.
