PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pickling a hot rolled stainless steel strip where the surface roughness of a hot rolled stainless steel strip is fined without reducing productivity even without the remarkable increase of cost and large-scale plant and equipment investment. SOLUTION: A hot rolled stainless steel strip is subjected to shot blast treatment using shot grains with the average grain size of 0.05 to <0.30 mm, and is thereafter pickled with acid. The pickling may be performed by (sulfuric acid pickling+fluoronitric acid pickling) or may be performed by hydrochloric acid pickling. In the shot blast treatment conditions, preferably, projection velocity is controlled to≥45 m/sec, and projection density is controlled to≥30 kg/m<SP>2</SP>. In this way, the hot rolled stainless steel strip having a surface roughness Ra of 1.0 to 2.0μm and a PPI of 180 to 300 is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
