Pressure cooker (10) has vessel (12) with sealable opening (24), cover (14) to close said opening, and pressure relief valve (30). The opening can be sealed tight when in operation and the pressure relief valve is designed so that is can be opened at a pre-defined amount of pressure. The pressure relief valve is located in the side of the vessel, near the opening. The opening has a smaller diameter that that of the vessel. The vessel consists of connected upper (12b) and lower (12a) parts which can be disconnected. The lower part has a beaker shape with cylindrical sides and the upper part has a tapering shape.
