A fluid management device for use in a mammalian body, the device comprising a convolutedly wound plate having a first surface and a second surface wherein the first surface of the plate in one winding of the device is disposed and maintained in facing relationship with the second surface and is capable of separating from the second surface sufficiently to provide inter-plate capillary action.
