PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely calculate the volume of an object region in a three-dimensional polar coordinate system. SOLUTION: A volume value table computing section 32 stores the volumes of sample points of one frame in the three-dimensional polar coordinate system based on the coordinates of the sample points. The volume values of the sample points are read to a game 36 based on the coordinates of the respective sample points. The volume values of the respective sample points are fed to an adder 37 using binary data of an object region extraction section 16 as a gate signal. That is to say, only in a case of a value "1" indicating the sample point of the cardiac cavity part, the volume value of the sample point is fed to the adder 37. The adder 37 defines the initial value as zero, simply cumulatively adds the volume value of the sample point of the cardiac cavity and outputs it to a latch 38. This process is performed on the data of one volume to calculate the volume value of the whole of the cardiac cavity. The calculated volume of the cardiac cavity is displayed on a monitor 22.
