A hose housing (10) in a vacuum cleaner base comprises upper (12) and lower (14) sections that are formed in one piece and connected to one another through a hinge device (16). Preferably the housing is formed by injection molding and the hinge is a film hinge. Preferably the two part grip into one another in the assembled condition. An independent claim is also included for a fitting method for a hose as above.
