The production of an encased seed comprises surrounding the seed with a casing which is provided with an absorber (8) which stores and releases moisture after sowing. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing an encased seed. The casing is provided with a super-absorber containing a soluble nutrient as well as water. The absorber has a fine particle size. The absorber is encased with a material acting as a separating agent before encapsulation.
