PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip type fuse element with which, even when a soluble body is formed using, for example, a low cost printing method, blowout time is shortened and resistance value of the soluble body is designed easily by making resistance of the soluble body high. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the chip type fuse element comprises a process for making the soluble body 2 by a printing method using the soluble paste including metal powder. The metal powder consists of powder containing metal that cannot be oxidized easily, and powder containing metal that can be oxidized more easily than the metal that cannot be oxidized easily. By carrying out heat treatment in oxygen content atmosphere after printing the soluble paste including the metal powder on a substrate 1, the metal that can be oxidized more easily is oxidized selectively and becomes metal oxide. Ratio, for example, mass ratio of the metal that cannot be oxidized easily and the metal that can be oxidized more easily is 95:5 to 20:80. Oxygen partial pressure in the oxygen content atmosphere is preferably higher than oxygen equilibrium partial pressure of the metal that can be oxidized more easily and lower than oxygen equilibrium partial pressure of the metal that cannot be oxidized easily.
