The drive assembly (1) comprises at least one actuator (3) that moves the hatch (2) so that it pivots about an axis (4) using a hinge (7). The actuator is in the form of an electric motor configured to provide linear drive movements to the hatch via a drive coupling. The electric motor drive is mounted so that it is parallel to the pivoting axis of the hatch. Preferably at least one deflection device (5), based on e.g. a bell crank, is coupled to the hatch so that the direction of the drive force generated parallel to the pivoting axis is changed through 90[deg] and then applied to the hatch via a connecting rod (6).
