A cutter, comprising a cutter unit cutting a long sheet-like recorded material in the lateral direction and a holding unit installed on the lower side of the cutter unit in a use attitude. The holding unit (6) is formed to be able to hold a part of the recorded material positioned on the lower side of the cutter unit when the recorded material is cut off by the cutter unit. Thus, even if the recorded material already recorded therein is suspended from near a recording part and a tension is applied to a cut position, the occurrence of defective cutting by its self-weight can be suppressed to well perform the cutting of the recorded material.
