A telephone number protecting system for protecting receiver's privacy and a method therefor are provided to prevent a sender who obtains a privacy telephone number from knowing a receiver's substantial telephone number, by inserting the privacy telephone number into a bar code or a special symbol mark, thereby protecting personal privacy. An encoding/decoding server(150) encodes an inputted telephone number to generate/output a privacy number, and decodes the inputted privacy number to output the corresponding telephone number. A privacy code server(140) receives the particular privacy number to deliver the privacy number to the encoding/decoding server(150), and outputs the corresponding mobile terminal's telephone number. A control station(140) extracts the privacy number included in code information by a call request received from an originating mobile terminal(100) to deliver the extracted number to the privacy code server(140), and connects a call of the originating terminal(100) with a terminal(110) corresponding to the mobile terminal's telephone number outputted from the privacy code server(140).
