PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device of an electric appliance which has a high class feeling. SOLUTION: The display device of a washing machine is provided with an operating section for operating a controlling device and a display section where controlling and operating descriptions are displayed. The display section consists of a transparent section 52, a displayed figure 50 applied on the surface of the transparent section 52, and an opaque back sheet 61 placed on the back of the transparent section 52. By this structure the illumination or a natural light L from above inside a house projects the displayed figure 50 on the back sheet 61 (projected figure 50'). The projection is seen in the sight line E of a user overlapped but slightly misaligned with the displayed figure 50 on the surface of the transparent section 52, thus the displayed figure 50 is seen double as if it is accompanied by a shadow, and the device with high grade is provided.
