The device has a hinge unit (13) for coupling two U-profile-units (10, 11) with each other in a stretchable and contractible manner. The U-profile-units are coupled with each other in an assigned position relation such that they from a longitudinal structure when the hinge unit is in stretchable position. Both ends of embroidery frames (7) are fixed with respect to each other in an assigned distance when the hinge unit is in the stretchable position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a sewing machine with an assisting device (2) a sewing method for utilization in a sewing machine.
