PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of using a heat resistant hollow sphere polymer having at least one cross-linked polymer stage and a core stage that is swollen with a volatile base, in an application in which the hollow sphere polymer is exposed to a temperature of from 100°C to 350°C, and an article made by the method. SOLUTION: The method of using a heat resistant hollow sphere polymer comprises the steps of: (a) providing a composition comprising a dispersion of a hollow sphere polymer, wherein the hollow sphere polymer has at least one core stage that has been swollen with a volatile base and at least one shell stage and at least one of the core stage and the shell stage is cross-linked; (b) performing at least one of the mixing of the composition with a coating composition, the mixing of the composition with a thermoplastic material, and the contact of the composition with a substrate; and (c) exposing the above composition to a temperature of from 100°C to 350°C.
