PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus designed such that the removal of toner sticking to the surface of a roll-like transfer member is achieved by a simple configuration without increasing the size and cost of the apparatus and complicating maintenance and the back of a transfer material is securely prevented from being soiled. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the roll-like transfer member by which a toner image held on an image carrier is directly transferred to a transfer medium or it is transferred from an intermediate transfer body to a transfer medium after temporarily transferred to the intermediate transfer body; and a toner dispersing means disposed in firm contact with the surface of the roll-like transfer member. In the image forming apparatus, a porous transfer roll in which the surface of a conductive core is covered with a porous elastic body made of a foam material is used as the roll-like transfer member.
