An initial synchronization detection method for synchronous stream cryptographic communication is provided to minimize the frequency of re-synchronization by suggesting a method for detecting synchronization errors and re-synchronization of each frame in a satellite communication environment with a long call set up time. An initial synchronization detection method for synchronous stream cryptographic communication includes the steps of: inserting a synchronous pattern(110,140) including a communication mode and a frame sequence number(112) for each frame of transmission data; encrypting and transmitting the transmission data according to an encryption state of each transmission data; receiving the transmission data and setting a state variable according to a communication mode of the received data and an error of a frame header; and processing received frame data according to a communication mode of a currently received frame and a state variable of a previously received frame.
