PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe wall material with extremely little emission of harmful substances in case of fire while being light and excellent in fire resistance and having a high thermal insulation effect. SOLUTION: The wall material for covering a wall surface of a building is composed in such a way that a fire-proof or flame-retardant coating material 2 is applied over the entire surface of a base board 1 made of flame-retardant foamed polystyrene, or a noncombustible or flame-retardant surface material 3 is attached.
