PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial leather base using hollow filament nonwoven fabric, and to provide a method for producing the artificial leather base. SOLUTION: The method for producing the artificial leather base comprises the following process: a plurality of fiber sheets (D) that are prepared by temporary adhesion at≤80°C of fiber web comprising (A) hollow filaments each 0.5-10 dtex in average fineness and 20-70% in hollow percentage are laminated together and subjected to needle-punching treatment to three-dimensionally interlace the hollow filaments. The resultant laminated sheet is shrunk at 10-40% longitudinally and at 10-40% transversely to make a hollow filament nonwoven fabric (B), which is then impregnated with a solution or aqueous dispersion of a polymeric elastomer (C) followed by coagulation and drying.
