PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel resistance measuring method and a travel resistance measuring device for a moving hand rail, capable of measuring travel resistance of the moving hand rail without stopping the travel of the moving hand rail. SOLUTION: To solve the above problem, displacement or deformation, which is generated in a drive roller shaft part 11f of the moving hand rail drive unit 11 caused by a pinching force acting on the moving hand rail 10 and the travel resistance of the moving hand rail 10, is measured to measure the pinching force and the travel resistance from the measured displacement or deformation.
