PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve processing speed in recording or reproducing and to record data accurately. SOLUTION: A mount control part 321 of a medium format confirmation processing part 320 sets (mounts) a medium A or a medium B loaded in a drive 145 to a writable or reproducible state through a file system 202, and obtains cluster size referring to a PBR. A recommended size discriminating part 322 discriminates whether the medium A or the medium B is formatted by recommended cluster size or not. A cluster size changing part 323 performs processing for changing the cluster size of the medium A or the medium B to the recommended cluster size based on the discriminated result of the recommended size discriminating part 322.
