PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an image of high image quality to be formed by effectively reducing propagation of an impact to a primary transfer position in the case of the occurrence of an impulsive load variance on an image carrier like an intermediate transfer member. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus which includes an image carrier (4) carrying a visible image and a transfer roller (10) facing the image carrier and transfers the visible image to a recording medium (P) by inserting the recording medium (P) to a transfer position (5a) between the image carrier and the transfer roller, an impulsive load absorption means is provided which comprises contact means (20) disposed on an entrance side to the transfer position (5a) of a front end of the recording medium (P) and on an exit side from the transfer position of a rear end of the recording medium and a rotation restricting means (40) for restricting rotation of a rotation support means (30) so as to bring one or both of the contact means (20) into contact with the image carrier (4) and the recording medium.
