ENGINE STOP CONTROLLER, ENGINE START CONTROLLER, AND METHODS THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately predict stop time of a vehicle by grasping behavior of traffic stream to perform idling stop effectively. SOLUTION: Stop of the vehicle is determined, and stop time is predicted based on the sum of time remaining until start of green light at a crossing on the downstream side or timeΔt elapsed from start of green light and start delay time calculated as functions of distance L from the vehicle to a stop line at the crossing on the downstream side and speed v of start wave after start of green light to determine whether an engine can stop or not based on the predicted stop time.
