The fine-machining device (1) machines a workpiece (5) such as a crankcase. A pre-stressed tool (8) simulates the clamped state of the workpiece. The clamping force is created by a hydraulic device (6), which has at least one traction anchor (7) passing through the workpiece on the side facing away from the tool, and able to be subjected to axial traction force applied by a hydraulic device (11) integrated into the tool. The process of fine machining using this device is also described.
