Provided is a secondary battery, which shows excellent mechanical rigidity and sealing characteristics, accomplishes electric connections without need for bending electrode terminals, and imparts a compact structure and excellent structural stability to a battery module. The secondary battery is a sheet-like battery including an electrode assembly received in a battery casing formed of a laminate sheet comprising a metal layer and a resin layer. The battery casing has a top end frame member, a bottom end frame member(400) and both lateral side frame members(200,300) mounted on the external side of the sheath member, wherein the frame members are independent coupling type frame members.
