<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce computational complexity and an increase in overhead of coded data as to a fade image, and to considerably improve the predictive efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: In carrying out motion compensation predictive inter-frame coding for a coding object macroblock by using a plurality of reference frames and a motion vector between the coding object macroblock and the reference frame, the moving picture coding method and apparatus skips the motion compensation predictive inter-frame coding to be applied to the coding object macroblock wherein its motion vector is coincident with a predictive vector selected from motion vectors applied to a plurality of macroblocks adjacent to the coding object macroblock of a moving picture, at least one reference frame selected for the coding object macroblock is coincident with a reference frame for the macroblock for the selected predictive vector, and predictive error signals to be coded in the motion compensation predictive inter-frame coding are all zero, and codes the number of the macroblocks whose motion compensation predictive inter-frame coding is skipped. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
