<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for neutralizing development of toxicity, for the purpose of curing gastritis, a gastric ulcer, etc., caused by Helicobacter pylori. <P>SOLUTION: A binder to a vacuolation toxin VacA of the Helicobacter pylori comprises at least one kind selected from a group consisting of ganglioside, a lyso form thereof, and a chemically modified product thereof (ganglioside and the like) as an active ingredient. A method for treating or preventing a disease in which the bacterium participates comprises neutralizing VacA activity by using the binder to the VacA. A method for screening a remedy or a prophylactic for the disease in which the bacterium participates comprises using the binder to the VacA and the Vac A. At least one kind of compound selected from the group consisting of the ganglioside and the like is used for producing the remedy or the prophylactic for the gastritis, the gastric ulcer, and a gastric cancer.
