<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression apparatus capable of carrying out novel preferable compression processing applicable to compression of CT data. <P>SOLUTION: The data compression apparatus includes: a thinning processing section that generates first data to be compressed comprising a sequence of numerals resulting from periodically thinning data to be compressed representing an image with a sequence of numerals expressed in a prescribed number of unit bits and generates second data to be compressed comprising a sequence of the remaining numerals; a reversible compression section for applying reversible compression processing to the first data to be compressed; a discrimination section for discriminating edges in the image; and an irreversible compression section that outputs a prescribed code with respect to the numerals configuring the second data to be compressed when the numerals are not edge parts, outputs a numeral re-represented by a first small number of bits smaller than the unit number of bits on the basis of a numeral when the numeral has a prescribed positional relation on the image with respect to the numeral configuring the first data to be compressed or outputs a numeral re-represented by a second small number of bits furthermore smaller on the basis of a numeral when the numeral has no prescribed positional relation when the numeral is an edge part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
