The retractor (22) has a rotatably supported belt spool (24) on which a belt strap (26) is wounded and unwounded. A measuring unit with a giant magneto-resistive (GMR)-sensor (10) that is designed as a swiveling angle sensor. Permanent magnets effect a relative movement to the GMR-sensor during rotation of the belt spool. The GMR-sensor is arranged on a rotary axis of the belt spool. A control disk (28) is coupled to the belt spool via a reduction gear unit.
