A washing machine and a method of sensing a drain error thereof are provided to rapidly and correctly distinguish the draining error by using the draining time and the change value of the draining ratio. A method of sensing a drain error of a washing machine comprises a step(S130) of judging whether the water reaches the draining finishing water level within a draining time when discharging water or not; a step(S140) of sensing the water level changed according to the draining operation and calculating the change value of the draining ratio if the water reaches the draining finishing water level within the set draining time; and a step(S170) of comparing the change value of the calculated draining ratio with the predetermined reference value and sensing the clog phenomenon of the impurities if the change value of the calculated draining ratio is over the reference value range. The draining apparatus is a draining pump or a draining valve.
