<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which enables a decomposition and removal of a nitrous oxide contained in an exhaust gas efficiently and effectively even in a low-temperature range such as 300°C or less. <P>SOLUTION: The nitrous oxide decomposition catalyst comprising a cobalt oxide containing mainly tricobalt tetroxide (Co<SB>3</SB>O<SB>4</SB>) and an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal, and a decomposition method of the nitrous oxide using the catalyst, and a manufacturing method of the nitrous oxide decomposition catalyst are provided. The manufacturing method of the catalyst comprises the steps of adding salts of the alkali metal and/or salts of the alkaline earth metal to at least one selected from a group consisting of (a) a cobalt salt, (b) an oxide of the cobalt salt, and (c) a deposit produced by a mixing of the water-soluble cobalt salt and an alkaline material after at least one of the water-soluble cobalt salt and the alkaline material is prepared to be in a state of an aqueous solution, by an impregnation support, of drying, and thereafter, of calcining. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
