An apparatus for reducing power consumption of a battery in a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to prevent the power consumption of the battery caused by a network connection/maintenance request signal which occurs cyclically in conventional technology by completely intercepting a signal generation program for the network connection/maintenance between the mobile communication terminal and a base station. An apparatus for reducing power consumption of a battery in a mobile communication terminal comprises an RF receiver(150), an RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator) sensor(160), and a controller(100). The RF receiver(150) receives an RF signal from a base station through an antenna. The RSSI sensor(160) senses the RSSI of the RF signal outputted by the RF receiver(150). The controller(100) compares the sensed RSSI with a critical value, and completely intercepts a network connection/maintenance on the basis of the comparison result. |
