When a tapered part is formed at the end part of a glass matrix for producing an optical fiber, the center line displacement of a fused part from the center line of the glass matrix is corrected below a specified numeric value, and the tapered part is formed by fusing the glass matrix at the corrected part. In a drawing glass matrix having a straight body effective part of average outside diameter D and a tapered part at one end thereof, a relation of delta/D<=0. 03 is satisfied between a distortion delta of the tapered part represented by the maximum center line displacement of the glass matrix between the straight body effective part end near the tapered part and the distortion evaluating end of the tapered part, and the average outside diameter D when the glass matrix is attached to a drawing machine. Consequently, the eccentricity of the optical fiber is reduced quickly at the initial stage of drawing and the excess length is decreased. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
|
