A laundry amount sensing apparatus of a washing machine and a sensing method thereof are provided to easily sense the laundry amount and reduce consumption power by sensing the inclination of the tub and detecting the laundry amount. A laundry amount sensing apparatus of a washing machine is composed of a storage unit(500) pre-storing the laundry corresponding to the inclination; an inclination sensing unit(200) sensing the inclination of a tub(100); and a control unit(300) comparing the inclination sensed at the inclination sensing unit with the correlation of the inclination and the laundry amount stored in the storage unit, sensing the laundry amount corresponding to the sensed inclination, and controlling the dehydration speed according to the sensed laundry amount. The inclination sensing unit is an acceleration sensor. The inclination sensing unit is attached at the tub. The storage unit is a loam table.
