Polymers of alpha-olefines are cross-linked by heating together, to a temperature of from 120 to 200 DEG C., a linear substantially isotactic polymer of an alpha-olefin, an organic peroxy compound, and a substance having at least one <FORM:0885470/IV (a)/1> group in the molecule. In a modification, the peroxy compound and the polymer may be combined in the form of a peroxidized or hydroperoxidized polymer. The substance having a <FORM:0885470/IV (a)/2> group may be styrene, divinyl benzene, butadiene, vinyl chloride, or an acrylate or methacrylate. The exemplified <FORM:0885470/IV (a)/3> compound is a mixture of divinyl benzene and ethylvinyl benzene. The peroxy compound may be benzoyl peroxide, tert.-butyl perbenzoate, dicumyl peroxide or di-tert. butylperoxide. Specified polymers are polypropylene and poly-alpha-butene. |
