A semiconductor memory system, a semiconductor memory chip, and a method of masking write data in a semiconductor memory chip are provided to serially transmit/receive data, command and address signal stream in a signal frame type according to a predetermined protocol through data, command and address signal lanes to/from a memory controller and/or other memory chip of the same type. A semiconductor memory system includes a memory control unit and at least one semiconductor memory chip. The semiconductor memory chip includes a transmission/reception interface part serially transmitting/receiving data, command and address signal stream in a signal frame type according to a predetermined protocol through each data, command and address signal lanes to-/from the memory control unit and/or other memory chip of the same type. The predetermined protocol and the semiconductor memory system transfer write data mask bit close to a write data unit in one write data/command stream. The semiconductor memory chip includes a memory core(CORE), and a frame decoder(FD) decoding a frame signal received from a reception interface part(DESK) by being arranged as an interface between the reception interface part and the memory core. And an intermediate data buffer(IDB) stores write data decoded by the frame decoder. The write data is to be transferred to the memory core in parallel.
