An optical encoder and an apparatus using the same are provided to install a reflective scale formed of an ultra-small reflective detection sensor and a film in a small space. An optical encoder includes a reflective scale(20), a light source(10), and a plurality of light receiving diodes(30). The reflective scale has a curved shape having a stripe pattern with predetermined pitches. The light source radiates light to the reflective scale with diffusion light flux. The plurality of light receiving diodes are disposed at predetermined pitches and receives the light flux reflected by the reflective scale. The pitch of the reflective scale is determined depending on a radius of curvature of the reflective scale. When the light source and the light receiving diodes are disposed at the same direction, a center of curvature of the reflective scale has a relationship between the pitch(P) of the light receiving diode and the pitch(Ps) of the reflective scale as follows: P < 2 < Ps. |
