<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized light separating film which is excellent in polarized light separating performance and which can be manufactured by a simple process and to provide a method of manufacturing the polarized light separating film and a liquid crystal display apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The polarized light separating film has a substrate comprising a transparent longitudinal resin film on a surface of which a plurality of rows of groove sections extending substantially in parallel with each other are formed and a light absorbing thin film layer formed so as to cover the whole surface of the substrate including the groove section when seen from a position facing a substrate surface. Further the polarized light separating film satisfies following conditions (1) to (5) in a perpendicular cross section. (1) 0.1δ<(h<SB>0</SB>-h<SB>1</SB>), (2) n<SB>1</SB>≥2.5 or k<SB>1</SB>≥1.5, (3) a parameter θ showing an inclination of the groove section is between 60° and 90°, (4) d<(λ<SB>0</SB>/n<SB>0</SB>), (5) 0.1d<t<0.8d, wherein h<SB>0</SB>denotes depth of the groove section, h<SB>1</SB>denotes thickness of the light absorbing thin film layer, δ denotes a calculated value:λ<SB>0</SB>/(2π<SP>2</SP>n<SB>1</SB><SP>2</SP>k<SB>1</SB>)<SP>1/2</SP>respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
