A liquid crystal display device is provided to increase or decrease gray levels of a plurality of sections on a liquid crystal display panel according to rates set for each of the sections for displayed image information, thereby realizing a uniform luminance distribution over the entire surface of the liquid crystal display panel. A liquid crystal display device includes a backlight unit for supplying light, a liquid crystal display panel for displaying image information by using the light supplied from the backlight unit, and a luminance control part for controlling luminance of the liquid crystal display panel by varying a gray level. The luminance control part controls a center section(C) and a plurality of environmental sections(E1-E4) of the liquid crystal display panel respectively by predetermined ratios set or changed by a user. The gray levels are reduced in the center section and increased in the environmental sections. |
