METHOD FOR PREPARING CERIUM OXIDE

A method for preparing cerium oxide including natural sedimentation of cerium salt in a composite solvent is provided to easily and naturally sediment the cerium salt and to improve washing effect thereof by precipitating the cerium salt in the composite solvent of organic solvent and water to form cerium hydroxide and conducting hydrothermal reaction of the cerium hydroxide. The method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing cerium hydroxide by precipitating cerium salt in a composite solvent containing organic solvent and water; and (b) conducting hydrothermal reaction of cerium hydroxide. After the step(a), pH of cerium hydroxide is controlled by adding alkaline material and followed by purification through natural sedimentation. Alternatively, an additive is introduced to cerium oxide after the step(b), in order to produce the product through natural sedimentation. Cerium salt is selected from cerium nitrate, cerium chloride, cerium sulfate and hydrate thereof. The sedimentation is carried out at 20 to 80deg.C.
