HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE AND HONEYCOMB CATALYTIC STRUCTURE

A honeycomb structure capable of providing a honeycomb catalytic structure which has excellent cleaning efficiency, is reduced in pressure loss, and can be mounted even in a limited space. The honeycomb structure (1) comprises: porous partition walls (4) which have many fine pores and have been disposed so as to form cells (3) connecting two edge faces (2a); and opening-end-filling parts (10) disposed so as to block each of the cells (3) at either of the edge faces (2a). When an exhaust combustion gas satisfying the following requirement (1) is led to the honeycomb structure, the proportion in number of the fine carbon particles which are contained in the gas and pass through the structure at a space velocity of 25,000/h is 80% or higher. Requirement (1): the average particle diameter of the fine carbon particles is 0.07-0.2 µm; the proportion of fine carbon particles having a particle diameter of 1 µm or larger is 0.1% by number or lower; and the concentration of the fine carbon particles is 10 mg/m³.
