The device has a driver (11) for wired or wireless communication to a personal computer (PC) (7). A sensor unit detects conditions of a volume actuator (1) and MTO or program switch (2) of the hearing device. A status change monitoring unit (9) and a communications coding unit (10) are connected to the sensor unit and automatically transmit a message to the personal computer during the change of the conditions of the volume actuator and MTO or program switch. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a hearing device such as hearing aid.
