A fire-stop product comprises a characterising marker that is detectable by a diagnostic method at a site where the product is located. The product may contain 0.001-1 wt.% of the marker, which may be selectively extractable using a solvent system. The marker is preferably a pH indicator, such as phenolphthalein, which undergoes a colour change during the diagnostic method, e.g. upon application of an acid or a base. Typically, the fire-stop product contains a polymer and may be in the form of a sealant, coating, adhesive, or putty. A method of identifying a fire-stop product by establishing the presence of the marker is also disclosed. The invention is intended to provide confirmation that a fire-stop product offering a particular level of protection has been used in an appropriate location. |
