The method involves modifying the desired registration values for the printing units of a printing machine, such that the drive operation of all the printing units is adjusted in minimum adjustment time by registration adjusting devices from the actual registration values of the printing units. A correction value, which is common for the desired registration values of the printing units and switching positions of the registration adjusting devices, is determined and supplied for correcting the desired registration values of the printing units.
