Franking system with distributed account

The method involves opening a franking session, and reserving a preset franking amount with a central postal security device (20) by each of franking managing modules with local postal security devices (28-1 - 28-N). Mail items are securely franked by the franking managing modules within a limit of the franking amount. A consumed franking amount during the session and statements relative to the corresponding franking are transmitted to the central postal security device at the end of the session. A rate of global franking amount is equal to the sum of franking amounts consumed by the modules.
