A method for managing stored multimedia contents in a digital multimedia apparatus and a device therefor are provided to automatically calculate contents size according to each storage type to analyze a user's storage space usage patterns, and to select contents to be deleted according to the analyzed patterns, thereby maximally preventing contents that the user does not want to delete from being erased. A multimedia contents apparatus classifies and stores contents(505). The apparatus monitors usage of a storage space(510), and decides whether the capacity of totally stored data exceeds a threshold value(520). If so, the apparatus decides whether a sum of an average of maximum values of contents temporarily stored for N days exceeds the threshold value(530). If so, the apparatus determines that contents stored for a long time are deletion targets, refers to meta data of the stored contents(550), and then selects individual contents to delete the contents(560). |
