A mobile terminal and a method for providing a function of preventing drowsiness driving by using a camera and an animation character are provided to determine whether a driver feels drowsy while driving, and generate an alarm when the driver dozes off while driving. A camera unit(112) captures an image with respect to a running state of a vehicle. A program memory(102) stores a dozing-off-at-the-wheel monitor function setting program and a character management program for expressing dozing off at the wheel as an animation character. A character management unit(115) stores a set dozing-off-at-the-wheel animation character and alarm comment to be displayed when a driver dozes off while driving. A microprocessor(116) sets a determining time interval of a dozing-off-at-the-wheel preventing function. When the set dozing-off-at-the-wheel preventing function is operated, the microprocessor(116) starts capturing video of a running state of the vehicle to monitor the running state of the vehicle. When the driver dozes off while driving, the microprocessor(116) controls a function of outputting the dozing-off-at-the-wheel alarm comment by using the animation character.
