The present invention relates to a composition comprising at least one hydraulic binder and at least one latex exhibiting a mean size of less than 400 nm which is prepared by polymerization from monomers, polymerizable by the radical route, chosen from at least one aromatic monomer (i), optionally at least one monomer (ii) comprising at least one vinyl ester and/or amide functional group and at least one functional monomer (iii) comprising a sulfonate, sulfonic or sulfobetaine group, and water. The invention also relates to the use of the latex in a hydraulic binder composition, in particular in a fluid for cementing wells for the extraction of oil and/or gas.
