A washing apparatus and a controlling method of the same are provided to reduce the damage of a heater part and inside pollution by draining the remaining steam water after using a steam generator into a tub. A controlling method of a washing apparatus comprises a step(S120) of confirming whether the steam requiring stroke is in progress or not; a step(S140) of feeding water to a steam generator if the steam requiring stroke is in progress; a step(S160) of producing steam by radiating a heater; a step(S170) of supplying the generated steam into inside of a drum; and a step(S180) of draining the remaining water in the steam generator if the steam requiring stroke is over. The step of draining is operated during one of the predetermined strokes such as drainage, washing, and rinsing are in progress or before the strokes thereof are in running.
