A method of controlling an inverter for a vehicle is provided to enhance charging and discharging performance of the vehicle by controlling the inverter according to an SOC of a battery and an inner temperature of the inverter. An ECU(Electrical Control Unit) receives an on-operation state of an ignition key from a start-up switch. The ECU receives an on-operation state of an AC inverter activation switch. While the ignition key and the AC inverter activation switch are turned on, the ECU receives a signal from an SOC detector and determines whether the SOC of the battery is within a normal operation range. When the SOC(State Of Charge) exceeds the normal operation range, the ECU stops the operation of the inverter. When the SOC is within the normal operation range, the ECU controls the inverter according to a signal from a temperature sensor which measures the inner temperature of the inverter.
